In 1994, Gardner appeared in the John Waters film Serial Mom as part of the fictitious band “Camel Lips”.

Before joining L7, Gardner held a variety of job opportunities at Los Angeles and had worked for LA Weekly. She was writing music and poetry when she first was introduced to Donita Sparks, who she met in 1984. They both worked at LA Weekly, although at separate times. They also were introduced through mutual contacts in contact with the magazine. Gardner founded the punk rock band L7 along with Sparks around 1985. As they began writing music as L7, Gardner and Sparks were involved in the creative DIY art punk scene that included poets, musicians and performance artists within the Silverlake/Echo Park neighborhood.

Suzanne Gardner (born August 1 in 1960) is an American musician and creative director who is best recognized for her work as a guitarist singer, vocalist, as well as co-founder and leader of punk rock group L7.
Gardner is the main composer of L7 and is the one who wrote the songs “Bite the Wax Tadpole”, “It’s Not You”, “Snake Handler”, “Cat-O’-Nine-Tails”, “Monster”, “Stuck Here Again” and “Freak Magnet”. In addition to performing on all seven studio albums by L7, Gardner also provided guest vocals for”The Slip It In”, a Black Flag song “Slip It In” in their 1984 album of the same name. Together with her L7 groupmates Donita Sparks along with Jennifer Finch, she was also as a guest on Bad Religion album Suffer, released in 1988, and where she played guitar along with Sparks on the track “Best for You”.
In a 1993 article for Spin which featured L7 on the magazine’s cover, Renée Crist described L7 as “four of the funniest, meanest, strongest, coolest, most pissed-off women I know” and as “wild, rambunctious, spontaneous” with a stage show that “is a wash of buddy love, crowd working, and acrobatics”.
