Suzanne Jane Dando, BEM (born 3 July 1961 in Balham, London) is a former British Olympic gymnast, who participated in 1979’s World Gymnastics Championship in Fort Worth, Dallas and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. After her retirement, she’s been a broadcaster for several channels which include BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4 and Sky Sports and serves as a Trustee and Patron for various charities.

In 1982, she took part in and was her the BBC Superstars Champion.

In July 1987, Dando married Graham Maclean in Westminster, a composer and songwriter. However, the marriage broke down. In September 1996 Dando married the Australian actor Bruce Roberts at Uckfield but he returned to Australia alone in the winter of 1998. At the time he said that he hoped their relationship could survive the separation. It did not and the couple divorced. Dando is now married to businessman Adam Reynolds and lives in Oxfordshire.

Her TV career started with the BBC presenting the children’s program ‘Stopwatch’ with Daley Thompson and Janice Long. She first joined Sky Sports at the end of 1993, mainly live programs on basketball and show jumping, with the odd stint on the BBC for national and international gymnastics events. She presented the BBC2 art program, ‘Awash with Colour,’ and BBC’s ‘The Pet Set’. Most recently co-presenting Horse of Year Show 2009.

In the year 1980, Dando won the ‘Champion of Champions award during the Royal Albert Hall. In May, she was the Overall British National Champion. Dando was the leader of her team, Susan Cheesborough and Denise Jones in an appearance at the 1988 Olympics at Moscow. Dando has made significant improvements from her previous standing (48th) after prelims and finished at 27th place in the overall event.

The gymnastics skills of her were first noticed at the age of eleven by her instructor in physical education Anne Billingham. She was quickly able to pass all BAGA Awards and was able to climb onto the bars with uneven surfaces for the very first time at she was twelve. In 1975, she was forced to leave her home with her family in Sussex and relocate to London to pursue a gymnastics training. She was the first British athlete to represent her country on the international stage in the year 1976, at just 15 years old. she represented Britain in a match against West Germany. After winning numerous National titles In 1977, she was awarded the Sir Winston Churchill Scholarship Churchill Fellowship that allowed her to train at the University of Texas in America during the year 1978. United States. The American returned America in the early part of 1979, returning just in time to participate at the British Championships, unfortunately she injured herself and was unable to not compete, which was her exclusion from the team for the 1979 European Championships. Following her recovery she was able to represent her country at the arena that was more competitive, the 1979 World Championships, Fort Worth, Dallas USA, gaining her F.I.G. Gold Pin.

After Dando’s retirement Dando was a coach for the children in gymnastics at Lewisham Leisure Centre in South London. She published her own book, “Fun Ways to Looking Good” as well as produced and screened her own fitness-related video, “Flexercise”. In the 1980s, she made a number of appearances with The Conservative Party, citing Margaret Thatcher as her model.

In 1983, Dando was the gymnastics supervisor for the Bond film, Octopussy. The following year her fitness album, Shape Up and Dance with Suzanne Dando, peaked at No. 87 in the UK Albums Chart.
