Sushil Datta is one of the most popular and richest Filmmaker who was born on February 4, 1959 in India. Sushil Datta, better called Sushil Datta Sharma (born on February 4 1959) is an Indian writer, filmmaker, and teacher of film and media located in Mumbai. Through his career, he has worked extensively on both television and film media. He’s also worked with some of the nation’s most prominent media firms like UTV, Balaji Telefilms, Nimbus Television & Sports and Sudhir Mishra Productions. He is most famous for his feature film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003) where he was executive producer. In television, India’s very first countdown program “Superhit Muqabla” was also produced by him.
He is currently working as director of City Pulse Institute of Film and Television (CPIFT) in which the director has made two films: Aakhiri Padaav as well as Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan. After leaving CPIFT it was transferred towards Asian Academy of Film and Television (Marwah Studios), Noida as Dean, Media Education and Industry Interface and then to GNA University as Dean of Faculty of Film & Television. While at GNA University he created and managed the hugely successful three days long 1st Punjab Film Festival at Jalandhar that was attended by a number of renowned celebrities of Punjabi Cinema, Music and Television.
Once in Mumbai he was assigned to direct Nimbus Television’s countdown (dubbed as mother of all countdowns) show – Superhit Muqabla . His association with Nimbus lasted many years where he worked as creative director / supervising producer / executive producer for many of their television shows like Nyaay and AGNI. During his tenure at Nimbus he came in close contact with Harish Thawani, Akash Khurana and Sudhir Mishra.
He has made serials for Doordarshan – Nai Manzilen Nai Rahein and several documentaries and short video advertisements for various departments and ministries. He has also made films in the celluloid format – SAHAR and Swadhikaar for department of Child & Women Welfare.
In 2004, the husband-wife couple of Himalya and Bhagyashree requested him to assume the double task of directing and managing the production of their highly acclaimed TV show Kagaz Ki Kashtti which ran on Sahara TV for 204 episodes.

He maintained his interest in literature, arts theatre, and eventually cinema, all while paying himself with post-graduate study in Journalism. The next step was to join an organization called the AJK, Mass Communication Research Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia (first Batch 1983-1985). In the master’s program, he was able to get close to legendary figures such as the late Anwar Jamal Kidwai after who the famous AJK Mass Communication Research Centre is named. Additionally, famous documentary maker James Beveridge and Directors Guild Award-winning/Gemini Award nominated director Michael Kennedy were instrumental in the development of his film and TV capabilities. Other teachers in the Jamia Mass Communication Research Centre who had a profound influence on the filmmaker were Documentary Filmmaker Rajiv Mehrotra (currently chairman of Public Service Broadcasting Trust) and the renowned wildlife filmmaker Mike Pandey. At Jamia Mass Communication Research Centre He was given the INLAKS Scholarship to study in Media in India.
He was also the Director and Segment Producer of Indian Television’s initial Cultural Magazine Surabhi (TV series) that was created by Siddharth KAK in association with DD National. Before moving into Mumbai around 1992, the actor collaborated with the production of an Italian feature film called Delhi’92, written and directed by Italo Spinelli.
Soon after, Sushil joined UTV – United Television Software as Head of Production. During his tenure at UTV he supervised the production of many popular shows like Bhabhi (Star Plus) , Shararat (Star Plus), Kehta Hai Dil (Star Plus), Shakalaka Boom Boom (Star Plus), Meher (DD National) , Cry Telethon (Sony TV) , Special Squad (Star One), Business Bytes – (BBC), Back To Floor (BBC) , Stuntmen of Bollywood – (National Geographic Channel) and many more for Hungama TV.
