Lothar was part of the group of actors of Deutsches Schauspielhaus theatre in Hamburg for a long time. Her performances include appearances as Frank Wedekind’s Lulu productions (Erdgeist (Earth Spirit) and Die Buchse der Pandora (Pandora’s Box)) and created by Peter Zadek. In her debut movie Strange Fruits (Eisenhans) in 1983, she won the German Federal Film Prize. Together with Ulrich Muhe, she appeared as the couple who were abused in the Michael Haneke’s original version of Funny Games released in 1997. Lothar also appeared alongside Haneke as Mrs. Schober as Mrs Schober in The Piano Teacher (2001) as well as in The White Ribbon (2009). Three of the films that Lothar made with Haneke were screened during The Cannes Film Festival.
