After knee operation on August 7, 2007, she ended her athletic career and was able to train and supervise in 2008 their fellow compatriots Geeske Banck (her 2006-07 co-athlete) as well as Anja Gunther.
The year 2001 was the time that Lahme began a beach volleyball career that was a parallel one. In 2002 she formed a duo along with Danja Musch. They began their journey on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. The year 2004 was the first time they competed during the Athens Summer Olympics at where she placed ninth position after being eliminated in Round 16 by Daniela Gattelli, and Lucilla Perrotta, both from Italy.

Lahme began her professional career in indoor volleyball team in 1980 for SC Dynamo Berlin and was eight times East German and unified German champion, and 9 times German Cup winner. In her East Germany national team she was the 1987 European champion, and twice European Championship runners-up (1985 in 1989). In 1991, she finished fourth during the European Championships with the already united German nation. Both in 1992 and 1993, she was awarded as the German Volleyball Player of the Year.
She participated in three different editions of the Olympic Games in 1988 (with East Germany), 1996 and 2000. She was in sixth (Seoul) and eighth (Atlanta) as well as sixth spots (Sydney). In addition, she earned five-place finishes in 1994’s World Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Her successful indoor career finished after the 2002-03 season in Italy. At club level , she competed with teams from Italy and Brazil and Germany. In 1995, she was the winner of the European CEV Cup playing with the Italian team Ecoclear Sumirago Varese. In 1996, she won the Champions League in Wien against Uralochka Ekateninburg playing with the team PVF Latte Rugiada Parmalat Mattera. As part of her team Foppapedretti Bergamo, she won the Italian Supercup in 1997 and the Italian Cup in 1998. She also was the winner of the Cup Winners’ Cup alongside Despar Perugia.
