Suleyman Abusaidovich Kerimov (Russian: Suleiman Abusaidovich Kerimov (IPA suJIj’man abUsa’id@vjItc and Lezgian: Kerimrin Abusaidan khva Suleiman ) (born 1966/1967) is a Lezgin billionaire politician, businessman, and philanthropist. In 2007 Kerimov created his Suleyman Kerimov Foundation as a platform to direct his charitable efforts. In 2008, Kerimov has represented the Republic of Dagestan in the Federation Council of Russia. In April of 2018 Kerimov was placed in sanctions from The United States Department of Treasury. At the time of his January 2020 appointment, Forbes estimates his wealth as $9.8 billion.
The year 1993 was when Kerimov became in the charge of coordinating relationships among Eltav and Fedprombank which was which is a Moscow bank founded by the electrical corporation. Fedprombank helped finance struggling industries and Kerimov and his associates quickly became the creditors of large utility companies, which allowed them to continue to offer crucial services. When the Russian economy improved it was able to repay the debts with substantial returns in the form of Fedprombank and, in turn Kerimov.
From 1999-2003, Kerimov was a member of the State Duma of the 3rd Convocation, the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia, as well as a member of the State Duma Committee for Security. From 2003-2007, while continuing his role on the Committee for Security, he was also a member of the 4th Convocation and Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Physical Education, Sports and Youth. He first gained a seat in parliament with the Liberal Democratic Party, led by Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
In late 1999, Kerimov bought a 55% stake in the oil trading company Nafta Moskva, the successor to the Soviet monopoly firm Soyuznefteexport, for $50 million. By 2000, he had increased his stake of Nafta Moskva to 100%. Kerimov undertook a mass restructuring of the company, selling off all of the oil- related aspects and creating an investment and holding company. Nafta’s investments in the mid-2000s included purchase of the business center Smolensky Passazh and AvtoBank.
Kerimov claims to have thought of earning money from the age of a child which led him to later leave his home in Dagestan at the beginning of 1990s.

Kerimov was a high school graduate in 1983 and after that joined his Civil Engineering Department at Dagestan Polytechnic Institute in 1984. However, his mandatory military service with the Soviet Army brought his studies to an end just one year after. Following his discharge at the end of 1986 Kerimov went on to study in Dagestan State University, where the graduate received an undergraduate degree in financial accounting along with economics and finance in.
