Sue Wicks is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Player who was born on November 26, 1966 in Center Moriches, New York, United States. Susan Joy Wicks (born November 26 1966) was an ex-basketball player from the women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She was a member of the New York Liberty from 1997 until 2002. Wicks was admitted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013. She is currently an collegiate basketball coach.
Wicks has spent over 15 years on the professional circuit abroad and was a part of the WNBA for the New York Liberty for six years (1997 between 1997 and 2002). Wicks generally played on in the back of the Liberty however she did play in the majority of their regularly scheduled matches, which included thirty starts (out from 32 matches played) for the 1999 season. Wicks debut during 1999 is due to her defensive ability. She quickly became popular with fans and was picked by crowd as the best player in this year’s WNBA all-star match. She was awarded the highest award of the WNBA for sportsmanship, which is the Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award. In 1999, and again in the year 2000 Wicks along with the Liberty made it to the WNBA Finals but were defeated by Houston again , both times. Then, in 2002 Wicks along with the Liberty were back in the Finals however, this time they were defeated by Lisa Leslie and the Los Angeles Sparks.
Since retiring from professional basketball, Wicks formed an all-girls basketball camp in New York City. In 2004, she completed her bachelor’s degree at Rutgers and was hired as the Coordinator of Operations for the Rutgers women’s basketball team. In 2005, she was named an assistant coach of the team.
In July 2006, she became the Assistant Coach for the women’s basketball team at Saint Francis College in Brooklyn, New York. After leaving her assistant coaching position at Saint Francis College, Wicks said that she felt that being an out lesbian was an overwhelming liability in getting a job as a women’s basketball coach.
Wicks was admitted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame on Long Island in the Basketball category with the class of 1991. She was admitted into the Rutgers Basketball Hall of Fame in 1994, and was also admitted into the school’s Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2005. She is among only two Rutgers women’s basketball players who get her jersey taken off.

Following her college career, she played professionally in Italy, Japan, Spain and Israel before the WNBA was founded. In 1997, she was signed for the inaugural WNBA season by the New York Liberty, to fill the role of back-up center. The Liberty played at the WNBA championship game, losing to the Houston Comets, 65 to 51.
