Ellery was in the first round of 2007’s Australian Carrera Cup Championship before being eliminated from the championship.

In 2000, Ellery was now in 2000 with Supercheap Auto backing, won the second race of the Sandown round. It turned out to be his sole championship race win. Ellery continued to work with his team until 2004 and a personal best of 9th place in the championship race in 2001. The team’s best moment was a double- top spot with Ellery along with Luke Youlden in the two main endurance races in 2003. They finished third at Sandown as well as third place at Bathurst. As of 2005, Ellery got the chance to join Craig Lowndes at Triple Eight Race Engineering for an agreement for two years. Although Lowndes took on a championship-style challenge, Ellery only finished 13th in the championship, with just only one podium finish at the Bathurst 1000. Ellery was replaced after just one season in the year 2006 by Jamie Whincup and never returned as full-time racer in the championship.

Ellery began racing in karts prior to his transition into Formula Ford in 1992. After finishing near the top of the Formula Ford pack racing a Van Diemen in 1993, Ellery changed his family’s team to the Australian Manufacturers Championship (later called the Australian Super Touring Championship) with the Ford Sierra in 1994 then the BMW 318i in 1995. Ellery’s appearance in a former Glenn Seton racing Sierra in the Amaroo Park Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) round in 1994 is the most recent entry for non-V8 powered cars to the competition.

The time he was away from the team of his family proved to be short-lived , Ellery once more choosing to join forces with Bruce, his father. Bruce from 1999 onwards. the team completing a part race in the championship, with support from the family-owned company Chelgrave Contracting. Ellery was able to secure first place in the non-championship race, which was part of The Gold Coast Indy 300. Ellery was a part of Dick Johnson Racing for the 1999 endurance races, which are now as part of the championship along with driver Paul Radisich was leading the 1999 event with less than 20 laps left until a punctured tyre forced the team out of competition.
