Steven Bradford (born January 12 1960) is an American politician within the California State Senate. The senator is a Democrat who represents the 35th district that covers areas of Los Angeles County. Prior to his appointment to the state senate Bradford was an assemblymember in the 62nd District of the California State Assembly. Bradford has been elected as the representative of the 51st District in an election that was held in a special manner on September 1st September 2009, shortly after Curren Price quit his post to take up an office on the California State Senate. He was elected again in 2010, and was elected at 72% with the votes and was again elected to represent the newly created district, which includes areas like Del Aire, Del Rey, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox, Marina del Rey, West Athens, Westchester, Westmont and Venice Beach.

In 2012, Governor Jerry Brown signed into law the AB 1511 law, which requires sellers of properties to provide buyers with important details about natural gas pipelines that are located near their residences. The law was created as a response to the fatal incident involving an underground pipeline that occurred located in San Bruno, CA.

Bradford closed the 2013 legislative year having 11 bills signed into law by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr.. Among these were bills focused on public safety, solar energy, and criminal justice reform:

Early in 2013, Assembly Speaker John A. Perez named Bradford the Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color. The Select Committee is a bipartisan panel of legislators from around the state tasked with fact finding and making recommendations for addressing the issues facing young men in California, particularly black and Latino boys.

As chairman, Bradford has garnered national attention for presidering over crucial hearings that examine massive power outages, as well as the ways in which federal, state and local authorities could better react to such incidents and avoid them at a later date. In October of 2011, Bradford convened a joint legislative hearing along with Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal, chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management located in San Diego to discuss the massive power outage that hit in the Pacific Southwest region in September of that year.
