Steve is also the proprietor of Iron Sport Gym in Glenolden, Pennsylvania.
Since 1995, Pulcinella along with his older brother Joe established the Iron Sport Gym in Glenolden, Pennsylvania. Pulcinella oversees and runs the facility, interacts with clients and – even though he’s quit competing – still works out to keep the “recreational hugeness.” Outside of Iron Sport, Pulcinella regularly announces the regional Highland Games competitions, and is the sports director of an annually held Celtic Classic in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania that was featured in the episode from Edge of America. Pulcinella is a featured contributor for EliteFTS, a strength training website and equipment resource founded by powerlifter Dave Tate. He has maintained a training log at EliteFTS.net since October 2010.
In 2012, Pulcinella published a strength training manual titled Iron Sport Strength Method that is available in both paper and electronic formats.
In the the 1990s Pulcinella was training to compete professionally as a strongman. He won the 1993 was the winner of the state of Virginia’s Strongest Man and the North America’s Strongest Man competition in Toronto beating 15 competitors in events that included deadlifts for cars, truck pulls and the loading of kegs. The year 1994 was the time Pulcinella got invited to participate for the World’s Strongest Man contest in South Africa, where he was last in his group and didn’t qualify for the finals.

Pulcinella began powerlifting competitions in 1981. He soon earned the reputation of having a large dimensions and huge lifts. He competed for around eight years. During that time, the athlete won 4 Pennsylvania State Powerlifting Championships, two Pennsylvania State Region II Powerlifting titles, and was ranked second at the USPF National Championships for teenagers.
Pulcinella was born in and was raised at Ridley Township, Pennsylvania, where he started strength training at the high school he attended, Ridley High School in Folsom, Pennsylvania, with his brother, bodybuilder Dave Pulcinella. The first time he began lifting weights, he was at age 13 and was able to compete for his first Powerlifting competition at the age of 14. After graduation from Ridley at the age of 33 in 1983 Pulcinella began working at the father’s print shop. For the next twenty-four years, the young man aided his work as a lifter by performing pre-press work as well as sales in addition to customer services for the family-owned company.
Pulcinella stopped competing in Strongman when he became a Highland Games pro in 1995. At the height of his career, he was competing in over 20 Highland Games events every year. Pulcinella qualified annually for the U.S. National Highland Games contest, participated in more than 300 events around the world, and earned over 40 professional titles over the course of his career. In 2000, he won the International Pro Highland Games competition at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, New Hampshire against a strong field of top throwers. Pulcinella retired from competing in Highland Games in 2011 after a devastating knee injury at the Newport Oregon Highland Games in Newport, Oregon.
