Steve McClure (born 25 July 1970) is an British rock climber from the UK. He is well-known for his hard-sport rock climbing in England. In 2007, he completed the first free ascent of Overshadow The first 9a+ (5.15a) route in the UK following John Gaskins’ 2004 route “Violent New Breed” in Giggleswick.
On the 23rd of May 2007, He made his very first climb of this route: Overshadow located in Malham Cove. The route extends over the route 8a+ (5.13c) Overnite Sensation and at the time of 2013, it was the most difficult sport route in the United Kingdom. The ascent was free and was completed in McClure around 30 days to complete over three years. On May 16, 2011, Adam Ondra made the first and only attempt and was able to confirm that the climb was a solid 9a+.
In 2017 McClure completed his long term project, named Rainman, in Malham Cove, giving Britain its first 9b (5.15b) sport route.
In 2000, he completed the very first attempt to climb 9.a. Northern Lights, in Kilnsey. This was an old idea from Ben Moon. In 2003, he completed his third 9a, which included an ascent for the very first time of Rainshadow located at Malham Cove.

McClure began climbing as an infant along with his family. At first, he was a trad climber and only started climbing sport when he turned 24. In 1998, he completed his first climb of Mutation at Raven Tor, his first 9a (5.14d) and the second 9a in the history of UK in the history of UK.
