Steve Hill Biography

Steve Hill is one of the most popular and richest Pastor who was born on January 17, 1954 in Ankara, Turkey. Steve Hill (January 17, 1954 – – March 9 April, 2014.) was an American Christian clergyman and evangelist. He is known best as an evangelist who spoke during what was later referred to as the Brownsville Revival. The Brownsville Revival was an ongoing series of gatherings at the Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida that began on Father’s Day, 1995 and went on through five consecutive years. Then, in 2000 Hill relocated to the Dallas/Fort Worth region of Texas to continue his evangelism on the road. He was in 2003 when he established Heartland Family Church in the Las Colinas section of Irving, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.

The revival was initiated in what is referred to by the name of Pensacola Outpouring. The service’s video can be found online and seems less dramatic than the events were later said to be. A few people who attended the service reported the presence of “a mighty wind” that passed across the sanctuary. The story quickly spread throughout all of the Pentecostal congregation, however it it received not much attention from the main media, until an article by when the Associated Press wrote about it in the month of March 1997.

Hill’s cause of death was ultimately a six-year battle with melanoma cancer. He fought till the very end. His son, Ryan died in October 2014 from either an accidental or homicidal overdose. The detectives explained to the Hill family that they will never be able to identify the true cause. Ryan pursued media productions until he died.

Steve lived every day with eternity in view, today he finally saw it with his own eyes. The Church has lost a general in the faith, heaven has gained a saint. The Pensacola News Journal ran a series of articles in 1997 on the Brownsville Revival and its leaders. The newspaper had published glowing articles on the revival at the time it first started but then initiated a four-month investigation following being informed that things were not as it seemed. The award-winning investigative piece highlighted various financial irregularities. For instance the four ministers did not provide anyone who asked for the total amount they earned and the revenue derived through the Revival, its associated arena gatherings, as well as the sale of items from the revival. Brownsville Assembly of God answered the News Journal’ s allegations by publishing a two-page article called “The Facts of the Brownsville Revival”.

Hill was raised in Ankara, Turkey to an American military officer along with his partner. As a teen, Hill got heavily into the world of alcohol and illicit drugs. When he was twenty-one, because of the effects of addiction to drugs the body started to shut down on a Saturday morning. For three days, he was suffering from severe convulsions. On the 28th of October in 1975, Hill’s mother requested Hugh Mozingo, a Lutheran minister, to see Hill. Monzingo told him, “Steve, I can’t help you, but I know someone who can. His name is Jesus.” In a desperate moment, Hill reports that he began to utter the name, “Jesus”, and immediately, the convulsions ceased. Hill also states that in that moment, every addiction to alcohol and drugs was completely eliminated. Hill says that on the day came, he entrusted all of his time to Christ and never looked back.

Hill was able to graduate from a two-year training course operated by Teen Challenge founder David Wilkerson. After that, he worked as an employee of Outreach Ministries of Alabama, and later as a youth pastor at numerous church congregations in Florida. In the late 1980s the couple were missionaries, holding the crusades as well as establishing church throughout Argentina, Spain, and Belarus. In early 1995 Hill traveled to London, England where a revival was taking place in the Holy Trinity Brompton Anglican Church. Church pastor Sandy Millar, prayed for Hill. Then, a few months later Hill visited Brownsville Assembly on Father’s Day for a sermon before leaving to preach in Russia.

A few weeks after his conversion experience, Hill was arrested at his parents’ home in Huntsville, Alabama and was facing 25 years in prison for drug trafficking. In a testimony at Garywood Assembly of God in Hueytown, Alabama in 2005, Hill told the congregation that he would have gone to prison if it were not for the mercy of the presiding judge who agreed to remand Hill to the Teen Challenge drug rehabilitation program instead of sending him to prison. Hill graduated from Teen Challenge and eventually became a staff worker for the program.
