Farmer reached in the 2nd round at the PDC World Championship for the first time in 2012. In a close game against the 14th seeds Ronnie Baxter, Farmer trailed 2 to 1 in the best-of-5-sets match. He followed that up with his finest darts, hitting five 180’s and winning six of the last eight legs to secure the victory with a score of 3-2. He continued his streak by winning against German qualifying player Kevin Munch in the second round, but was whitewashed by the world’s number three James Wade in the last 16. In March, he racked up an impressive nine-dart win during the 3rd UK Open Qualifier during a first round match against Andy Relf. Farmer was eliminated in the final 16 of the competition in the final round by Andy Smith. Farmer was eliminated in the first final of the UK Open 1-4 to Jamie Lewis who made it to the final 16 again in the final ten tournaments of 2012, in the final Players Championship where he was defeated in the final by Gary Anderson 6-1.

In the year 2010, Farmer made the switch to PDC. On September 4, he made his very first PDC ProTour event final in Crawley but lost in the final to Adrian Lewis 4-6 in the final. A week after, on 19 September, Farmer won his first title of his career in The Dutch Players Championship by beating Kevin Painter 6-4 in the final. The win ensured that Farmer was able to compete in the first time in a PDC major which was at the time of the World Grand Prix. He was defeated in the opening game to Steve Brown by 2 sets to 1. The 2011 PDC world championships, Farmer came up against an experienced athlete who was Paul Nicholson. He lost 0-3 in sets. He reached the semi-finals at the 2012 Players Championship, but lost to a resurgent Gary Anderson, 7-10.

Farmer’s debut big run came during the year 2006 at Winmau World Masters, reaching the semi-finals after beating Tony Eccles, Michael Rosenauer and John Walton before losing 6-0 in sets to Martin Adams. Then he reached Finals in the 2007 British Classic, losing to Co Stompe. Then, he was in the England team for the 2007 WDF World Cup, reaching the Quarter-Finals in the Men’s Singles event, and also helping England to win the Team Event.

Farmer began 2013 ranked world number 49. He reached the last 16 of the final UK Open qualifier where he lost 6–4 to Matthew Edgar, but the £600 he earned was enough to see him enter the tournament in the preliminary round. Farmer defeated Chris Aubrey 5–3, before being beaten 5–2 by Gareth Cousins in the first round. He played in 10 more events during the rest of the year but couldn’t advance beyond the last 64 in any of them. Farmer dropped 61 places on the Order of Merit during the year to start 2014 110th in the world, well outside the top 64 who remain on the tour. He did not enter Q School and has not played in a PDC event since.
