He won $4,250,000 as a result of his second-place performance.
Being a newcomer at the table, in one WSOP segment, he claimed that he was be “the fourth best player in his home game” prior to his participation in the Main Event. Actually, that 2005 WSOP Main Event was his first time in a tournament to win cash. Prior to that, he played his home game with his friends. He was not keen to pay the full cost of the event himself, therefore he divided the entry fee of $10,00 50/50 with his buddy Jerry Ditzel. In the end, he finished 2nd at the main Event, Dannenmann split the $4,250,000 prize with Ditzel.
He has also competed on the World Poker Tour and has cashed in two events. His highest WPT cash was $65,000 for his 11th-place finish in the 2008 Borgata Poker Open tournament in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
In the press conference after the WSOP Main Event, Dannenmann said that he found that playing poker for seven consecutive days for 12–14 hours to be boring, which led to criticism from some professionals.
The result in the main event earned him a spot to participate in an appearance in 2005’s WSOP Tournament of Champions, which he took fifth place and took home $100,000. At the end of the table, he slammed Phil Hellmuth Jr for his behavior towards the tournament director for refusal to place his chips in a stack, and deliberately and constantly slowing down the tournament.
