Stephen Richard Cammack (born 20 March 1954) is an English former footballer. As a forward who scored 43 goals in 419 league games during his 15-year time with the Football League.
He was released by John Rudge’s Port Vale in December 1985 however he was recalled to his team the following month, despite not achieving much with his single start along with two substitution appearances. In the 1985-86 season”Valiants “Valiants” won promotion out of the Fourth Division. After a brief loan period at Stockport County in which he only played 4 times in Edgeley Park, he moved onto Kevin Blackwell’s Alliance Premier League side Scarborough. After moving out of at the McCain Stadium, he later was a player with Worksop Town in the Northern Premier League.
The next time he moved was Scunthorpe United. Ron Ashman led the “Iron” to 14th place in the Fourth Division in 1979-80 and the team finished 16th in 1980-81. Cammack played the 1981-82 season as a player for Colin Murphy’s Lincoln City, who finished 1 point and 1 place just outside that Third Division promotion places. Cammack resigned from Sincil Bank and returned to Scunthorpe which is now under the management of John Duncan, and scored 25 goals between 1982-83 to become the top division scorer, and helped “Scunny” to win promotion from the Fourth Division in third place. They did not make it to the top leagues under the new manager Allan Clarke, and were removed in 1983-84, after having failed to gain a foothold at The Old Showground all season. Following the time that Frank Barlow took charge, they were ranked ninth in 1984-85. Cammack received the Club’s Player of the Award in 1985, after having scored 25 goals over just 39 games. Over the two seasons he was at The club Cammack played 245 times in league games, scoring 110 goals.

Cammack started his career with Sheffield United. Sheffield United “Blades” finished tenth in the First Division in 1971-72 and 14th in 1972-73, under the supervision under the direction of John Harris. Following the appointment Ken Furphy, United finished 13th in 1973-74 before finishing the team finished sixth between 1974-75. Cammack appeared in 36 league games in his four years playing at Bramall Lane, before he joined Joe Shaw’s Chesterfield. Chesterfield’s “Spireites” finished 14th in the Third Division in 1975-76. Under the direction by Arthur Cox, Chesterfield finished 18th in the 1976-77 season and ninth in 1977-78, narrowly staying out of relegation by one spot with four points between 1978 and 1979. Cammack recorded 21 goals across 113 league matches during his four seasons at Saltergate.
He started his career with Sheffield United in 1971, then transferring into Chesterfield four years after. After playing over 100 times in four years with the club, he was transferred to Scunthorpe United. He played seven seasons for Scunthorpe United under the name of “Iron” in two spells during a time in Lincoln City in 1981-82. His goals helped propel Scunthorpe away from the Fourth Division in 1982-83. In total, he recorded 110 points for Scunthorpe over 245 games in the league. He was loaned at Port Vale and Stockport County and then joined league football in non-league playing with Scarborough as well as Worksop Town.
