Steve Archer (born January 5 1953) is an American producer, singer and songwriter. He was a pioneer in this genre, Jesus music that later be referred to as modern Christian music. He was the former leader in The Archers, a contemporary Christian music and Jesus music group that performed and recorded during the the 1970s, 1980s and the 1990s.

Archer continues to perform, but at smaller numbers and stopped recording. He then moved his home to Texas for more family time. Also, in 1994, his label issued another compilation called Contemporary Christian Gold and he made an appearance on the album for Christmas, Gift Of Love: A Christian Christmas Celebration with various other artists. In 1998 it was the first time that he had appeared in 5 years. Archer came back to his studio to record His Stay Right Here album This time, it was on the newly-launched Kle-Toi label. The album was consistently given national airplay and was a huge hit with airplay songs, “Back On My Feet” and “Stay Right Here”. He was a guest on a number of Christian television shows such as Life Today with James Robison. Archer also is an ASCAP writer and, through his entire career he has composed most of his own music as well as in the band The Archers (including the 1979 popular song, Stand Up! ) and for his own recordings. In the mid-90s his management continued to book him for up to 150 shows a year in the nation’s top Christian venues. However, despite his efforts to reduce his shows, he was still touring for more than 100 shows per year through 2004, but without the weight of a recording. The studio was reopened in 2005 to record the most recent album that he has recorded to date: Call It Grace, featuring a variety of hits previously recorded by The Archers (including Billy Rush Masters The Archers’ hit song from 1977, “Fresh Surrender”) along with new songs. The tour continues, and he has one of the longest-running career paths of Contemporary Christian music. While the majority of CCM performers from the 1980s are no longer in production, his CDs are still available , and can be purchased on iTunes. Steve Archer lives in the metroplex of Dallas-Fort Worth. He has four children: Vanessa, Brandon, Natalie and Stephanie.

The birthplace of Steven Mark Archer in Mojave, California, US, the child of an Assemblies of God pastor, the singer began singing along with his brother Tim in the church of their father within the northwestern San Joaquin Valley of California when he was nine years old. The group later expanded to other churches within as well around San Francisco Bay Area. In the 1960s, they performed together with Gary, their elder brother Gary and The Archer Brothers. The year 1970 saw Tim Steve and Steve created The Archers with Nancye Short and Billy Rush Masters in Southern California. The Archers recorded their music and performed the world throughout the 1970s and into the beginning of the 1990s. The younger sister Janice was replaced by Short in
