On July 6, 2013, his contract was terminated and he was traded to Miami Marlins (along with Josh Wall and Angel Sanchez) for Ricky Nolasco. He started with his team, the New Orleans Zephyrs and was elevated to the Majors for his first appearance on the 28th of July. He played four games for the Marlins in two weeks, posting an impressive 4.50 ERA and 4 Ks with one loss.
Ames was ejected from the 40-man roster the 4th of October, 2013. He was able to spend the entire 2014 season pitching for the Marlins minor league chain. Ames was selected in the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round of 2009’s MLB Draft out of Gonzaga University. He started his career with Ogden Raptors in
- Ogden Raptors in 2009, with an 2.10 ERA in 17 appearances. In 2010, playing for the Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League he had a 2.54 ERA in 23 games with 16 saves. For 2011, the pitcher played the season between the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League (1.17 in 15 games nine saved) as well as the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern League (2.48 in 28 games, five saves).
Ames was a player in the 2012 season with the Lookouts and appeared in 54 games with an 1.56 ERA and 18 saves. He was also selected for the Southern League Mid-Season All-Star team. The Dodgers included him on the 40-man roster following the season and elevated them to AAA Albuquerque Isotopes to start the 2013 season.
Ames signed with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball for the 2015 season. In 33 games, Ames was 1-2 with a 4.45 ERA and 28 Ks in 28 ⁄3 innings pitched.
