Stephen William Mallinder (born 1 January 1955 in Sheffield) is an English musician/artist who was the founder of Cabaret Voltaire, and went into the world of Sassi & Loco, the Ku-Ling Bros Hey, Rube!, Wrangler and Creep Show.
Mallinder was also creator and the founder of Off World Sounds label (Australia) which releases music under two names: Ku-Ling Bros. and Sassi & Loco. The label was also established by Off World Productions in 1998.
Keynote addresses include “Life in Music” at the Red Bull Music Academy (Melbourne, 2006), “Signal to Noise[1973–83) Music Technology” (Sydney International Festival of the Arts 2010) and the first academic Kraftwerk conference: “Music, Modernity and Movement” (Aston University, 2015)
As part of Cabaret Voltaire he has had video work exhibited at MOMA (New York) and with Wrangler in the Turbines (Tate Modern, 2010).
Mallinder along with Richard H. Kirk, founded his own studio, the Western Works Studio (with Chris Watson from 1982) and later recorded in more than 30 albums, working alongside engineers and producers such as Flood, Adrian Sherwood and Marshall Jefferson. He worked as a producer as well as a remixer and live performer.

He recorded solo as an artist throughout the 1980s, such as his Pow-Wow album, which was released in 1983. In 1988, he recorded alongside the members from Soft Cell in the band Love Street, and in 1989, he was a part in Acid Horse. It was a group that also included Al Jourgensen, a member of Ministry.
In 1982, Mallinder was among the founding members of Doublevision which was the first UK independent video label, with an accompanying record label. Mallinder also was the founder of Plastex Records in 1990.
The debut Ku-Ling Bros. album Creach (2001) was reissued in the United States through dPulse and follow up album “Here Come the Astronauts” (2010).
