When he graduated in 1973 in McGill Faculty of Law, he was a student at the McGill Faculty of Law, He was appointed an investigator to the Senate Select Committee on Presidential Activities (Senator Sam Ervin’s Watergate Committee, or The United States Senate Watergate Committee).

In 1977, Leopold created Leopold Properties. The company was later rebranded Leopold Property Consultants, became one of the largest companies within North America to represent only tenants. This meant that Leopold and his firm represented the top North American corporations and professional firms during the creation of office buildings that could accommodate their tenancies. This included some of the most famous Montreal landmarks such as 1001 de Maisonneuve Blvd to Aetna Insurance. In May 1986, while representing Coopers & Lybrand (today PricewaterhouseCoopers), Clarkson Tetrault (today McCarthy Tetrault), and Claridge Investments (the holding company for the descendants of the late Samuel Bronfman), Leopold inspired the redevelopment of one of downtown Montreal’s most important heritage sites, The Windsor Hotel. Leopold’s leadership in the field of real estate as well as his well- publicized relationship with the Prime Secretary Brian Mulroney (1984-1993), resulted in bringing Leopold to the forefront of the Canadian media. Leopold used his fame to make controversial public statements. In 1984, when he was an influential chief of Montreal’s anglophone population, Leopold proclaimed that notwithstanding the threats of Quebec sovereignty Quebec sovereignty movement the hydroelectric power sources of Quebec will continue to sustain its economy as it grew. At times, he was controversial. In 1985, Leopold publicly challenged where pension funds of a large size are investing their money in Montreal and argued that it was unwise to invest in areas that do not have access to public transport. In 1986 He was the leader of one of the initial Canadian business boycott in protest against South Africa’s apartheid policy. South Africa at a luncheon hosted by Canada’s top dinner club The Canadian Club which included the president of the Canada-South African Trade Committee. In 1989, Leopold was profiled as a guest writer in Vista Magazine, a national monthly magazine, in an article entitled “Stephen Leopold – Owner, Leopold Property Consultants – Kingpin of Canadian Real Estate”.

In 2012, Leopold was highlighted as a featured “expert” in Donald Trump’s book The Best Real Estate Advice I Ever Received: 100 Top Experts Share Their Strategies (ISBN 0-307-20999-7).
