Stephen Greenhorn (born 5 September 1964 in Fauldhouse, West Lothian, Scotland) is a Scottish screenwriter and playwright. He is the writer for River City, a soap opera on the BBC Scotland soap opera River City.
In 2007, he developed Sunshine on Leith for Dundee Rep the musical that incorporated The Proclaimers’ songs. The Proclaimers. The production won the TMA Award for Best Musical in 2007 and has been touring many times since. The film version was launched in 2013. Greenhorn modified it to on the large screen. The film was made on location in Glasgow in Scotland and Edinburgh in the final months of 2012 and starred Peter Mullan and Jane Horrocks and was directed by Dexter Fletcher.
Greenhorn’s TV work includes episodes of The Bill and Where The Heart Is. For BBC One he has written the six-part drama series Glasgow Kiss (2000) and the feature-length drama Derailed (2005). His adaptation of Jean Rhys’s novel Wide Sargasso Sea was screened on BBC Four in 2006.
Greenhorn’s plays have been produced by a wide variety of theatre companies across the UK as well as on BBC Radio and several have been published.
Greenhorn has created two scripts for the science fiction show Doctor Who: “The Lazarus Experiment” in Series 3 (2007) and “The Doctor’s Daughter” in Series 4 (2008). Greenhorn also created the comic strip Mind Shadows. Mind Shadows which was published in the Doctor Who website in 2008.
