Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Gary George Dalton, GCB, ADC, FRAeS (born 23 April 1954) is a former Royal Air Force commander and currently the Lieutenant Governor for Jersey.

After his promotion from air deputy marshal to May 14th, 2003. Dalton got the title of Director Information Superiority. Dalton was also named Controller Aircraft in 2004, and he was able to keep this position following the appointment of Director Typhoon on May 2, 2006. He was named as a Companion to the Order of the Bath in the 2006 New Year Honours.

Dalton’s interests include sports, theatre and history. He was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Leicester in 2011 and an honorary Doctorate of Science by the University of Bath in 2013.

Dalton was appointed as an University Cadet on 16 September 1973, and was reclassified as a pilot officer upon graduation on July 15th, 1976. Dalton became a flying officer January 15 1977, and was promoted to flight lieutenant on the 15th of October 1977. Dalton flew on the SEPECAT Jaguar on three tours that included operations from both the UK as well as Germany as a ground attacking and the role of tactical reconnaissance. Dalton received the rank of the rank of squadron leader on July 1, 1984, and was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for outstanding Service during the skies in 1987’s New Year Honours.

In the 2009 Birthday Honours he was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath. He was promoted to air chief marshal and appointed Chief of the Air Staff, and Air Aide-de-Camp to Queen Elizabeth II, on 31 July 2009. Dalton was appointed Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath in the 2012 Birthday Honours.
