Steliana Nistor is one of the most popular and richest Artistic Gymnast who was born on September 15, 1989 in Sibiu, Romania. Steliana Nistor (born 15 September 1989) is an Romanian former gymnast who was an artistic one. She was a crucial player on the Romanian team from 2006 to 2008, when she assisted the Romania achieve bronze medals for the team during the 2007 World Championships and the 2008 Olympics. In terms of her own performance, she was the world’s 2007 all-around and balance beam silver medallist, as well as the 2007 , and the in 2008, the European silver medallist for the uneven bars and bronze medallist of 2007 for the balance beam. Nistor was a formidable all-around performer, however her most successful competitions were on balance beams as well as uneven bars.
In the 2007 World Championships, she helped her team achieve the third position by getting the top all-around score of women’s qualification. In her own way, she was first in the all round final and placed fourth on beam, and 5th on uneven bars. She took silver in the all-around competition, just behind Shawn Johnson and silver on beam in front of Nastia Liukin. She also placed sixth in the uneven bar finals. Together with Sandra Izbaşa, Anamaria Tămârjan, Gabriela Drăgoi, Andreea Grigore, and Andreea Acatrinei, Steliana was a member of the Romanian team at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games Beijing, China. In the team competition she did all four events and contributed heavily to the team score on uneven bars with a world class routine (scored 16.150). She won the bronze medal with the team and placed 5th in the all-around and 7th on uneven bars. Following the Olympic games, Nistor went back home while the other gymnasts went to Constanta for a holiday/training camp by the seaside. A few weeks later, she formally announced on television that she would be retiring, having been bothered by back pains for quite some time.
The 2008 Romanian Nationals coincided with Nistor’s exams, so she juggled a full competition with her studies. Nistor won the all-around and two events and scored 10s on Romanian language and literature, English and Sports. Her final average was 8.95, placing her among the top ten students in Deva. The process, Nistor told Prosport, was “draining,” and she only competed bars at a dual meet with Italy the following week to give her mind and body a rest.

Steliana started gymnastics at five at the club for gymnastics CSS Sibiu under the training of previous Olympic Champion Mihaela Stanulet, and the trainer Raluca Bugner (since 1998). In 1998, she won the first place as a team member during an international event in France. She also took home the all-around title, silver on beams and bars, and bronze on the floor in the Romanian junior championships for her age group. These accomplishments enabled her to join the national junior gymnastics team for 2002. As a junior gymnast for the national team, she was a medalist in numerous national and international competitions. In 2004, the 2004 European Junior Championships Amsterdam was a particularly successful event for Steliana. She took gold in the all round and floor finals, as well as silver in the vault and team finals. Her overall score was the best among all gymnasts including senior ones.
From 2005 onwards, Steliana was a participant in the national team for senior gymnastics. However, she was out for over six months by knee and back injuries, and she was unable to play at all in the year 2005. In 2006, she returned to the top of the list in all round competitions and took home the overall silver medal behind Sandra Izbasa at the Romanian Nationals. Steliana was also part of the Romanian national team that competed in this year’s World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark. According to team coach Nicolae Forminte the team in 2006 was the least experienced generation of Romanians from when it was Nadia Comaneci. Of all the players, only Floarea Leonida experienced the thrill of winning a world championship. In Aarhus the Romanian team finished third in their team event, it was the first time since the year 1981 the Romanian team did not medal at the world championship. She also finished fourth overall with her co- teammate Sandra Izbasa and seventh on beam and uneven bars. In 2006, she teamed together with Marian Dragulescu for the silver medal at the Swiss Cup and by winning gold on beam as well as bronze on the floor during the Glasgow Grand Prix.
In 2007, she had several successful international meets. In the qualification round of the 2007 European Championships, Amsterdam, The Netherlands she placed second all around, third on beam and floor and fourth on bars. She won silver on bars and bronze on beam. The last Romanian gymnast to medal on bars at European Championships was Claudia Presecan in 1998. Falls from beam and on floor placed her fourth all-around and fifth on floor. Her team colleague Sandra Izbaşa won the all around silver medal.
