He is most famous for his dark crime-drama films like ACAB The ACAB – All Cops Are Bastards (2012), Suburra (2015) as well as Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018) as in addition to the TV series Romanzo criminale The serie (2006-2008) along with Gomorrah (2014-present).

In 2012, Sollima made his debut in feature film by directing the brutality of police thriller ACAB The ACAB – All Cops Are Bastards, for which he was awarded an award from David di Donatello and an Nastro d’Argento nomination in the category of Best New Director. In 2014, he was as the director in charge of Sky Cinema’s highly acclaimed crime-drama series Gomorrah which was which is based on the non-fiction book with the same title by Roberto Saviano and its previous film adaptation. After directing several episodes of the first and second season, Sollima quit the series in the year 2016 due to scheduling conflicts with his other projects. Then he directed the crime-drama ensemble movie Suburra (2015) which was co-produced by Netflix and bringing the director another Nastro d’Argento nomination the time this one for Best Director. The film was made into a series by Netflix to become a prequel TV series, which was the premiere Italian Netflix Original Series.
