He also returned to NCAA competition in the middle of 2015. In his final year of eligibility, he was the ACC Indoor runner-up, won the ACC Outdoor title with a record time of 8.22 m (26 feet 11 inches) and finished 3rd in the NCAA Indoor Championships. He was a finalist for NCAA Outdoor Championships, but was unable to take part because of an injury. Brits did well academically throughout his college career and was 4-time Academic All- American. The culmination of his achievements was being awarded the 2016 Academic All-American of the Year by the College Sports Information Directors of America which makes his the only Florida State athlete ever to be awarded this honor, following shooting putter, as well as Rhodes Scholarship Garrett Johnson.
