Spenta Wadia did his bachelors from St. Xavier’s College, Bombay and masters from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He obtained his Ph.D. from City College of City University of New York in 1978. He then worked at University of Chicago from 1978-82 first as a research fellow and then as a staff scientist. He finally moved to the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in 1982 where he remains to this day.
Spenta Wadia’s main research interests are in quantum field theory, statistical mechanics, string theory and quantum gravity. There is considerable overlap of these areas in light of the gauge-gravity duality of string theory. His other scientific interests are in complex systems including cross-disciplinary biology.

He is currently a Distinguished Professor at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai and the Founding Director of the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS).
