Denoncourt began her career as a referee in 1978 when she was of just 14 and then she decided to stop playing the game in order to advance her professional career in the field of referee by her age 22. Denoncourt made history as the first female FIFA certified referee in the year 1994. Denoncourt was then appointed referee for the 1999, 1995 as well as the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cups.
