Sonia Bompastor (born 8 June 1980) is a retired French footballer who played for the French club Lyon of Division 1 Feminine. She is mostly a midfield position, preferring to play on the left. Bompastor could also play in the left-back position. She has twice been a recipient of the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) Female Player of the Year Award, and after a switch into the Women’s Pro Soccer (WPS) club within the United States, earned Player of the Month and All-Star awards.
Bompastor made her debut international with the Bleues on the 26th of February, 2000, in a game against Scotland. She was part of the teams who participated at the 2005, 2001 as well as the 2009 UEFA Women’s Championship. She also played for France in the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
At Montpellier, Bompastor blossomed and scored 38 goals over four seasons while helping the club win league titles in 2004 and 2005, as well as the Challenge de France (women’s version of the Coupe de France).

Bompastor began her career in football in 1988 with US Mer, a local club that was part of a commune. She was a member of the team’s mixed. In 1992 she was a member of US Thoury. The was the same season that Bompastor received a spot on an elite female team that was granted permission to be a part of the Clairefontaine academy by the French Football Federation. The academy quickly became an elite training center for male footballers, and fans of women’s football. would like young women to receive similar benefits of the facilities as males. After receiving professional training in Clairefontaine, Bompastor moved to the amateur group Tours EC. She stayed for four years with Club before moving to ESOF La Roche-sur-Yon from the Division 1 Feminine in 2000.

The year 2008 saw her was a part of the US-based ladies’ soccer club, called Women’s Pro Soccer, following the fact that the league’s American right to play was drafted in the Washington Freedom in the 2008 WPS International Draft. In the aftermath of helping Freedom reach the playoffs, Bompastor went back to France in the summer of 2009, where she played in the French club Paris Saint-Germain on loan. In 2010, she announced she would return back to Lyon during the 2011-2011 season. She later, she was player in the side which was crowned this year’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.
