Sonam Dolma was born in Kongpo, Tibet (today Kongpo, Gongbo’gyamda County, Nyingchi Prefecture, Tibetan Autonomous Region, China) She is her father was Kunsang (Mola) Wangmo, the former Bhikkhuni and Tsering. The family emigrated from the eastern part of Tibet after the 14th Dalai Lama refuged in 1959 to Dharamshala in the north of India traversing the Himalayas by the foot.
