Slobodan Prosperov Novak is one of the most popular and richest Historian who was born on April 11, 1951 in Belgrade, Serbia. Slobodan Prosperov Novak (born 11 April 1951) is Croatian literature historian, comparativist and theatrologist.
Over a period of time, the editor of a magazine that featured Croatian authors Most (“The Bridge”). He was president of the Croatian PEN society during the 1990s and 2000s, and was instrumental in organizing together with co-workers from 1993. They held the event in war-stricken Dubrovnik in the city of Dubrovnik the annual 60th Word PEN Congress. In 1998, he founded the Mediterranean Institute Grga Novak on the island of Hvar.
He edited several books on Croatian writers, authored many literary anthologies, and was the creator of multimedial projects, such as the theater shows Ecce homo and Kako bratja prodaše Jozefa at Dubrovnik Summer Festival in 1995.
From 2001-2005 he taught South Slavic philology at the Department for Slavic studies of the University of Yale in New Haven, USA. Since 2010, he teaches literature at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb.
He was a part of a monumental exhibit “Gundulicev san” (“Gundulic’s dream”) in 1989, in the museum of Zagreb. town of Zagreb.

Prosperov Novak was born and raised in Belgrade and spent his early years in Dubrovnik. He completed his comparative literature degree in 1973 from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb and received his M.A. in 1976 and a Ph.D. from the Faculty in 1978. He was an editor in the periodical Vjesnik u srijedu (1973-1974).
In 1977, he was an assistant, and then in 1988, he was a professor of Old Croatian literature at the Faculty of Philosophy. Between 1981 and 1984, He taught in the Institute for Slavic Philology of the University of Rome, and during the period 1990-1992, he served as an assistant to Minister of Education, Culture, and sports in Croatia. Republic of Croatia.
In 1990-1992 he was the president of the council of Dubrovnik Summer Festival, and in 2000 served as its head.
