Sixto Joaquin Lezcano-Curras (born on November 28th 1953, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico) is a retired player of the baseball who played for 12 years playing outfield in the Major Leagues between 1974 and 1985. He was part of several teams of the Majors and also won the Gold Glove during his career.
Following the season of 1980 the player was part of the blockbuster seven- player trade made between the St. Louis Cardinals, being one of the four players who were traded with Rollie Fingers Pete Vuckovich, and Ted Simmons. He was not able to make it into the regular roster at St. Louis, and hit .266 in 1981 with his fellow Cardinals during the 1981 season.
Lezcano joined a Phillies team which won the NL pennant in 1983. He platooned with Joe Lefebvre during the postseason, and homered off Rick Honeycutt during the 1983 National League Championship Series (NLCS). He had one base hit in eight at-bats in the Phillies’ World Series loss.
He continued to platoon with Philadelphia in 1984 before leaving the team as a free agent. He signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1985 and served as one of the team’s pinch hitters. Prior to the start of the 1986 season, during spring training, Pittsburgh released Lezcano, which ended his Major League career.
His most impressive offensive performance came during 1979 when he was within the top 10 of the AL in terms of batting percentage as well as home runs. He had the third-highest slugging percentage of the American League. The following season, he was rewarded by his defensive prowess by receiving the sole Gold Glove of his major league career.

Lezcano was named an amateur in the year 1970 by the Milwaukee Brewers. After four years within their minor league system Lezcano entered the big leagues first in 1974. He was named the Brewers right fielder of the team’s starting lineup in 1975, a position which he held for six seasons. He demonstrated a strong throw in the right field and was among the top American League (AL) outfielders in assists in 1978.
When he was with the Brewers He became the first baseball player from Major League Baseball history to hit an elusive grand slam on Opening Day twice, doing it in 1978 and also in 1980.
He was involved in another major trade after the 1981 season, being traded to the San Diego Padres with Garry Templeton for Ozzie Smith. He hit well in his first year with the Padres, and was among the top 10 in the National League (NL) in on-base percentage. However, his numbers fell off with the Padres in the 1983 season, and he lost his job in right field to a young Tony Gwynn. He was eventually traded to the Philadelphia Phillies late in the year in exchange for four players to be named later.
