She is a part of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and is the leader of the women’s section of the party.
In the COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020 Siti Zailah who was newly appointed deputy minister of female and child development, brought up the issue of shariah-compliant uniforms, at a time that airline employees were likely to face reductions in their jobs, as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, which caused a global decline in demand for travel in the Parliament. The minister was met with a huge opposition from the general public, as well as a variety of government officials and officials, including the former Youth and Sports minister YB Syed Saddiq.
On July 14, 2014 following the shooting down in the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, Siti Zailah declared that, in light of possible “Allah’s wrath” Malaysia Airlines should not serve alcohol anymore and change the dress code for flight attendants who are females particularly in the case of Muslim females. Empower, a non-governmental organisation has criticized her remarks and accused that they were “insensitive and irrelevant”.
