Parker on April 27 1956 – October 9 September 9, 14th, 2014) was an American blues, electric gospel, blues rock, and soul performer as well as songwriter and record producer.

“Gimme That Old Time Religion (2001) was her debut gospel album, then followed with Live in Europe the same year. The recording was made on the island of Peer, Belgium. It was her performance in the latter part of 1990 in Europe that earned her the title, “the Blues Lioness.” In 2002, she played for Monterey Bay Blues Festival. Monterey Bay Blues Festival, however, in the following year she was diagnosed with the rare condition known as synovial Sarcoma. It was initially diagnosed with the chance to live for three months. A series of radiation, chemotherapy and treatment followed. She returned to the studio to release Love, Soul & Spirit, Vol. 1 in 2004. Parker created a 40-voice group named The Sista Monica Gospel & Inspirational Choir an ensemble of music that consists of people from different faiths.

In 2005, Can’t Keep a Good Woman Down included cover versions of Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” and Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.” Sweet Inspirations was issued in 2008 when Parker was again the disc’s producer.

Living in the Danger Zone (2011) saw Parker include Kelley Hunt in a vocal and piano duet.

The family was born in Gary, Indiana, United States, Parker began singing in her local Baptist church at seven years old. In graduation, Parker became a part of in the United States Marine Corps and, after 3 years in the service was promoted to up to the position of sergeant. When her military service between 1977 and 1980 came to an end, Parker set up a firm for staffing, initially located in Chicago and aimed at electrical engineering jobs. After moving the company in Silicon Valley she acquired clients that comprised Apple Inc., Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems and Yahoo!. Inspiring by her former neighbour MC Hammer, Parker started an acting career in 1992. She performed frequently on Emi’s Bar & Grille in Santa Cruz, California. In 1995, she recorded her debut record called”Get out of My Way, on her own record label Mo Muscle Records. Her single “Windy City Burner” was heard on radio stations and was used to the promotion of her first tour through her home country of the US, Canada and parts of Europe. The album that followed, Sista Monica was released in 1997.

Parker was the Santa Cruz County Artist of the Year in 2005, and winner of the Gail Rich Award for excellence in the arts in 2000. She was dubbed ‘Best Blues Artist’ at the California Music Awards in 1998, and was nominated for the ‘Best Soul Blues Female Artist’ at the Blues Music Awards in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012. In 2015, she posthumously won a Blues Music Award as the ‘Soul Blues Female Artist of the Year’.
