Simone Niggli-Luder is one of the most popular and richest Orienteer who was born on January 9, 1978 in Burgdorf, Switzerland. Simone NIGGL-LUDER (born in January of 1978) is a Swiss athlete in orienteering who is twice the winner of (in 2003 and in 2005) the four women’s events in the World Championships. It is widely believed that she is one of the top ever orienteers.
The name she was given is Simone Luder, she grew up in Burgdorf in the Canton of Bern. She completed her biology studies in the University of Bern, where she graduated in 2003. In the that same year also, she was married Matthias Niggli, also a Swiss athletics orienteer. They live in Munsingen close to Bern as well as within Ulricehamn, Sweden.
Niggli-Luder took time off from competitive orienteering in 2008 to give birth to her first child and again in 2011, twins. She made a successful return to the international orienteering scene in 2009 by winning bronze medals in the middle and sprint distances at the World Orienteering Championships in Miskolc, Hungary, and the gold medal in the long distance. At the World Championships 2013 at Vuokatti, Finland, she won all three single competitions (sprint, middle, and long distance) and finished third in the team relay event (together with Sara Luescher and Judith Wyder).
She was the winner of the women’s four events of the world championships that took place at Rapperswil located in Switzerland (sprint middle, sprint long distance and sprint, and– along in tandem with Birgitte Wolf as well as Vroni Konig-Salmi- the relay). She repeated this accomplishment two years later in the world championships held in Aichi, Japan.

She started participating in orienteering at a young age and joined OLV Hindelbank, the Swiss group OLV Hindelbank; at the age of 10 she took part in her first event. Since since then, her palmares has been outstanding: she took home gold during junior world championships 1997. She has been a 20-time Swiss champion, and has won the Finnish championships once , and at least nine times the Swedish championships nine times. She she has been a world cup champion five times, and has won 7 gold medals in the European championships, and 23 gold medals from world championships.
As of 2001, she was an entire year living in Finland she ran for Finnish club Turun Suunnistajat. Finnish Club Turun Suunnistajat, and won the Finnish championship. She raced for Ulricehamns OK, the Swedish team Ulricehamns OK after July 2003. Then, in September of 2013, Niggli Luder announced she was resigning from competitive orienteering at time of the year’s end, following her last World Cup race in New Zealand. Niggli has more than sixty World Cup race victories.
At the European Championships in 2006 in Otepää, Estonia, she won gold in the sprint and long distance competitions, and finished fifth in the middle distance competition. The Swiss team finished second in the relay, beaten only by the Finnish team. At the world championships 2007 in Kiev, Ukraine, she again won gold on the middle and sprint distances and finished third on the long distance, behind two Finnish athletes who shared first place.
