Simon Allan Stainrod (born 1 February 1959) is an English former professional footballer which played at Sheffield United, Oldham Athletic, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa and Stoke City. The player also played in France with RC Strasbourg and FC Rouen and in Scotland for Falkirk, Dundee and Ayr United.

The 1988-89 season was spent playing in France in France with RC Strasbourg (8 appearances, 2 goals). Then he had a second period at FC Rouen (22 appearances, one goal) before going into Scotland in order to join Falkirk as well as Ayr United, and later to manage Dundee as Dundee’s manager in Scotland. In his time at Falkirk he scored a goal from the half way line against St Johnstone straight from the kick-off.

Stainrod later had a disappointing stint with Sheffield Wednesday, and was transferred to Aston Villa for PS350,000 in September 1985. He then had a sensational debut in his debut when he scored every goal during the game against Exeter City in the League Cup. Although he scored 21 goals at Villa in 1985-86, he struggled to make it into the squad in 1986-87, and the team was relegated into the Second Division. In January 1988, he was a part of Mick Mills’ Stoke City where he scored two goals in his 16 appearances during 1987-88. In 1988-89, Stainrod scored five goals in 18 games before his move to France.

Stainrod was born in Sheffield and began his football career in the Premier League with Sheffield United making his debut at the end of 1975-76 season. He scored twice in seven matches when the Blades fell into the Second Division. He played for four seasons in Bramall Lane making 75 appearances scoring 14 goals , before he was transferred into Oldham Athletic in Match 1979. At Boundary Park that Stainrod began to establish a name for himself, scoring 26 goals in 79 games, which caught the attention from Chelsea as well as Queens Park Rangers. Stainrod decided to join Terry Venables’ QPR in November of 1980 for a price of PS270,000.

In the 1981-82 season , he was a key member of the team that made it to the 1982 FA Cup Final, losing by 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur after a replay, Stainrod scored a career record of 24 goals in this season. In 1982-83, he assisted the team to win the Football League Second Division title and also finish fifth in First Division qualifying for Europe. After Venables quit Loftus Road at the end of 1984 to join Barcelona the team quickly was ruined under the failed administration of Alan Mullery. several players, including Stainrod went to other clubs.

He is also a FIFA-licensed football agent and is now based in Cannes, France. In 2003, he set up his own company with a couple of his friends called Matchday Media. Stainrod was working with Hatem Ben Arfa following his move to Newcastle United as his adviser.
