Simon Peyton Jones FRS MAE (born 18 January 1958) is a British computer scientist, who studies the use and implementation to functional programming language, focusing on lazy functional programming.
In 2004, he was elected as an honorary Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery for contributions to functional programming languages. In 2011, he was awarded an honorary membership in the Academia Europaea.
He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Glasgow in 2013 and an honorary doctorate from the University of Kent in 2017.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2016 and a Distinguished Fellow of the British Computer Society (DFBCS) in 2017.
Also, he was a key participant in his 1999 work Cybernauts Awake, which explored the spiritual and ethical consequences for the Internet.
