Shujaat Bukhari is one of the most popular and richest Editor who was born on February 25, 1968 in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Shujaat Bukhari (25 February 1968 14 June , 2018) was an Kashmiri journalist who was also the founding editor for Rising Kashmir, a Srinagar-based publication.

Bukhari was a graduate of the Masters in Journalism at Ateneo de Manila University as a fellow of the Asian Centre for Journalism and was awarded the World Press Institute fellowship. Bukhari was also an associate with the East- West Center, Hawaii.

News-agency Press Trust of India reported that separatist leaders had called for a complete shutdown in Kashmir on 21 June 2018 to protest against the killing of Bukhari and civilians gunned down by security forces over recent days.

On 19 June 2018, after a two-day holiday on the eve of the Eid festival, major newspapers in Jammu and Kashmir “for the first time in decades” protested the killing of the journalist by leaving their editorial sections blank. Newspapers which joined this protest were Greater Kashmir, Kashmir Reader, Kashmir Observer, Rising Kashmir which had been edited by Bukhari till his killing, and Urdu newspapers including the Tamleel Irshad.

Police have released CCTV images of the suspects suspected of being responsible for the murder the face of one covered with a helmet and the two other suspects cloaked in masks mounted on motorcycles and asked for the help of the public in identifying the suspects.
