Shu Chin-chiang is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on April 5, 1953 in Baozhong, Taiwan. Although an election was scheduled however, Taiwan Solidarity Union’s central executive committee named Shu to chair the committee on January 10, 2005.

In February 2014, Shu and delegates led by Kuomintang Honorary Chairman Lien Chan, visited Beijing for three days, where they met with the head of Taiwan Affairs Office Zhang Zhijun and Communist Party of China General-Secretary Xi Jinping. During the visit, Shu endorsed Lien as a champion for promoting cross-strait dialogue and advised the Democratic Progressive Party to seize this opportunity for change and to drop Taiwanese independence as a core value. His actions were viewed as seriously violating the core values of the TSU, and he was expelled from the party for making the trip to China.

In April of 2005, Shu visited the controversial Yasukuni Shrine in Japan, receiving a lot of criticism from Taiwan because it has shrines for World War II war criminals. But, Shu said that his visit did not represent an endorsement of Japanese militarism but rather an attempt to honor Taiwanese soldiers who died in the service of with the Japanese during the time of occupation.

In December of 2004, Shu was reported as potential candidate for TSU chairmanship. In the following year, Shu announced his candidature to be the party’s chairman. Shu quit his position as the head of the National Cultural Association, where Shu became replaced with Tchen Yu-chiou. He then announced that he would be running for position.

Shu resigned the party chairmanship on 25 December 2006, to take responsibility for the TSU’s poor showing in the municipal elections.
