Shonali Bose is one of the most popular and richest Film Director who was born on June 3, 1965 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Bose co-wrote the script for the Bedabrata Pain director movie Chittagong, a period-set drama that tells the story of the 1930 Chittagong army raid. Her 2014 film, Margarita, with a Straw featuring Kalki Koechlin, who plays a child suffering from cerebral palsy, was premiered at the 2014. Toronto International Film Festival to praise from the critics. The film was awarded the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film during the festival. Bose had started working on the script just a year after the passing of her son. The film’s first draft was awarded the Sundance Mahindra Global Filmmaker Award during the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Bose was motivated to create the film by her personal experiences in her life of attending school at the University of New York, her relationship with her cousin Malini Chib who suffers from cerebral palsy, as well as her and Chib’s sexuality, both as queer and disabled people , respectively. The film was initially blocked by the censor board in India However, it won an appeal, and then was made available just after the restriction of homosexuality India was lifted.

Inspired from the life of Malini Chib—her cousin and a disability rights activist, the former earned Bose a Sundance Mahindra Global Filmmaker Award and a NETPAC Award.
In 2019, Bose has written and directed The Sky Is Pink, a film based on the motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary, starring Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim. The film was theatrically released on 11 October 2019 and was critically acclaimed.
Bose made her debut feature film in 2005 with the drama Amu and she created the script for the production. Amu was released on India in January, to high praise and an enthusiastic response from the viewers. Amu was shown on international festival stages in Berlin as well as Toronto. Bose has won numerous international and national prizes for the film, among them the FIPRESCI Critics Award as well as the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English and the Gollapudi Srinivas Award for Best Debut Director. Bose composed the story Amu that was is based on the screenplay that was premiered in tandem with the film.
