Following the victory of the SNP in the 2007 Scottish Parliament Election, Robison was appointed Minister of Public Health. Then, in 2009 she was appointed the Minister of Public Health and Sport in an overhaul of the Ministerial portfolio. After the election of 2011 she was appointed the Minister of Commonwealth Games as well as Sport as well as Michael Matheson taking on the Minister for Public Health portfolio. The Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport was appointed in April 2014. Alex Salmond promoted her to the Cabinet position as Cabinet Secretary Commonwealth Games, Sport, rights of pensioners and equalities. Robison was elevated to the Health role, serving as Minister of Health, Wellbeing and Sport during Nicola Sturgeon’s initial Cabinet reshuffle in November of 2014. On May 18, 2016, Sturgeon changed her cabinet, with Robison staying in her position, but her new title being the Cabinet Secretary of Health and Sport.

They were married by Stewart Hosie, who is the Westminster MP for Dundee East and was previously the SNP’s deputy leader. They have a daughter. It was announced on the 15th of May 2016 that they had split up. The news was followed by reports that Hosie was involved in an affair with a journalist from Westminster, freelance Serena Cowdy.
