Shlomo Benizri is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on February 7, 1961 in Gesher, Israel, Northern District, Israel. Shlomo Benizri (Hebrew: SHlmh bnyzry ; born on 7 February 1961) is an Israeli politician who is a part of the Shas party. He was a representative of Shas during the Knesset between 1992 and 2008. He served as the Deputy Health Minister and Minister of Health and the Labor and Social Welfare Minister during the latter half of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s. He was later found guilty of accepting bribes, breaching trust, conspiracy to commit a crime as well as obstruction of justice and received a prison sentence.
In 2001 the year 2001, he was accused of discrimination based on race after he said “I just don’t understand why a restaurant needs a slant-eye to serve me my meal.”
For the 2003 elections, Benizri was placed second on the Shas list, and was re-elected. For the 2006 elections, he was dropped to sixth place.
In 2004, during “The Passion of the Christ” controversy, when several Shas members wanted to have the film banned in Israel for anti-Semitism, Benizri disagreed, and said that, “the Jews did kill Jesus”, reportedly elaborating that Jesus was put to death according to Sanhedrin tradition: “They [the Jews] took him [Jesus] up to a high roof, and threw him crashing to the ground. Afterwards, they hung his body on wooden beams in the shape of a ‘T’, but not, as the Christian legends say, that he was crucified. That’s nonsense.” Benizri also claims that Jesus’ death was an internal Jewish affair. “What is there to deny? We’re talking about a yeshiva student who left Judaism, and the Sanhedrin put him to death.”
Benizri began his tenure in the Knesset in 1992, on Shas list. He also was the party’s parliamentary group leader during his first term. He was elected again in 1996, and later named the Deputy Minister of Health in the government of Binyamin Netanyahu. He was elected again in 1999, after being placed in the fifth spot on the Shas list. He was named the Minister of Health during Ehud Barak’s cabinet. He served as a cabinet member until Shas was removed from the government on the 11th of July 2000.

Shlomo Benizri was born Nesher. It was the eighth child born to Maimon as well as Aliza Benizri. When he was a kid, he attended in the elementary school of Nesher which was a youth religious village located in Kfar Hasidim. He also attended Nesher Comprehensive High School. He was a member of the Israel Defense Forces and participated in the 1982 Lebanon War. He continued to study for 10 years at Yeshivat HaChaim which is a yeshiva in Jerusalem and was then designated Rabbi. He then taught at the yeshiva as well as be the spiritual director of the yeshiva.
The year 1998 was the time that Benizri demanded Dana International to be removed in her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, which was later won by her. He said “The Eurovision Song Contest interests me about as much as the weather in Antarctica, but as a son of the Jewish people, it [Dana International’s transsexuality] offends me” and “Undergoing a sex change is worse than an act of sodomy … choosing her is sending a message of darkness to the world.”
He returned to the cabinet after Ariel Sharon formed a new government in 2001 as Labor and Social Welfare Minister, serving until the 2003 elections (aside from a period of two weeks in May–June 2002 when Shas withdrew from the coalition).
