Shin Eun- kyung (born 15 February 1973) is an South Korean actress. She is most well- known for her roles as a lead on the television series Downfall (1997) along with My Wife Is a Gangster (2001).

On 22 September 2003 Shin got married to Kim Jung-soo who was the director of her agency for talent Good Player Entertainment. In the next year she gave birth to one son, who later was identified with hydrocephalus. On August 24, 2007, Shin filed for divorce when she realized that Kim had utilized her private seal without permission to steal $400,000 (US$424,800 ) to finance his company following the merging together with Fantom Entertainment and the box film’s failure at the box office of several films he’d made. On November 24, Shin sued Kim for fraud in private documents. In a different case she was sued by KM Culture, the company which Kim was able to obtain the loan amounting to $29 millions (US$218,000 ). The 28th of December, 2008 the court decided that Shin was not responsible for the debts of her ex-husband, noting that even though Shin’s signature is included on the loan contract, Shin had not seen any of the loaned funds and was not the one who authorized her seal’s use and therefore was not responsible to pay the loan.

She again landed in the entertainment headlines in 2011 when she underwent bimaxillary osteotomy surgery (or jaw realignment surgery), reportedly because she felt making her strong jawline “slimmer and more rounded” would give her a “younger, softer, more feminine” look, which would result in more acting roles. Shin later spoke candidly that she regretted having undergone the procedure for pure cosmetic purposes, saying the public should be better informed about the pain and danger associated with the invasive surgery. In 2012, she sued an oriental medicine clinic for violating her portrait rights and privacy after it posted false ads on the internet without her permission, featuring her photo and treatment process; she had gone to the clinic to decrease the swelling of her face, a side effect of her jaw reconstruction surgery, but the clinic’s treatments proved ineffective. The court ruled in Shin’s favor and awarded her damages amounting to ₩35 million.

Shin has been a professor at Seoul Hoseo Art College’s Department of Performing Arts since 2011.
