Shih Jun-ji is one of the most popular and richest Economist who was born on August 10, 1955 in Changhua, Taiwan. Shih Jun-ji (Chinese: Shi Jun Ji Pinyin: Shi Junji ; born 10 August 1955) is a Taiwanese economist. He was 2nd chairman of the Financial Supervisory Commission from 2006 until 2007, after Kong Jaw-sheng was dismissed. Shih was also the Governor for Taiwan Province and minister without responsibility in the year the year 2016. In the following year, he was appointed chairman of the Taiwan Stock Exchange. He was appointed chair in 2017. was appointed to the office of Vice Premier of the Republic of China. Chen Chi-mai succeeds Shih as vice-premier in the year 2019.
Shih returned to Academia Sinica’s Institute of Social Science after having resigned his FSC chairmanship. Shih was appointed as the economic adviser for Tsai Ing-wen’s presidential campaign in 2016. In the days before her election The US-China Economic Review Commission revealed that Shih could be selected as a financial advisor in the administration of Tsai. The Tsai premier Lin Chuan selected Shih as minister with no responsibility in April of this year. Shih was responsible for the policies of communications and economics and was also the leader of trade talks. Shih was appointed as chairman of Taiwan Stock Exchange Taiwan Stock Exchange in June 2016. He assumed the chairmanship on July 1, 2016.
Shih was named to his position on the Financial Supervisory Commission in July 2006, and was named FSC Chairman in the month of August of the same year. In his time as FSC chairman during the time of his appointment, his company, the Rebar Chinese Bank filed for bankruptcy protection. This led to an economic crisis that led to losses of NT$19 billion and eventually a government takeover of this financial establishment. In addition, the Enterprise Bank of Hualien, independently of Rebar was declared insolvent, and was placed under the supervision by the FSC. Shih quit on the 12th of January 2007, just a few days following the announcement of the takeover, to be accountable in the Rebar scandal. She was replaced by Susan Chang on an interim basis prior to when Hu Sheng-cheng assumed office.

Shih earned the bachelor’s diploma in Business Administration at Fu Jen Catholic University in 1978. He also earned his master’s degree Economics from Soochow University in 1980 and doctoral level in economics from National Taiwan University in 1984. While an undergraduate, he was a leader in protests against the White Terror, a period of political oppression that started shortly after the 228 Incident of 1947.
Following graduating, Shih did research with the Academia Sinica. He later joining in the Fair Trade Commission from 1998 until 2001.
Shih succeeded Lin Hsi-yao as vice premier of the Republic of China in September 2017. He was appointed to the office by William Lai, who replaced Lin Chuan as premier.
