She was taken care of by her paternal grandparents when she was an infant and her parents split at the age of 5 years older. Growing up with her strict parents, she became extremely independent and wanted to get out of the house once she reached the age of maturity. When she was a senior in the high school she noticed that TVB was looking for students to join acting classes. She determined to apply.
She appeared in 1998 made an appearance as a character in Liang Po Po: The film as a talented foreigner that hails from Hong Kong that is engaged as an expert in the field of imparting knowledge about the triad to local gangsters such as Liang Po Po.

Due to strong backing from the netizens, Tang was once again awarded the coveted “Best Actress” award, making her the first actress in Hong Kong to win this top award consecutively.
When she was in 1991, she travelled into New York City on a student visa to study interior design and still filming with TVB during the breaks of her studies. While there she contemplated leaving the acting profession and moving back to in the United States permanently to continue her studies. But, after returning in the end, she chose to remain within Hong Kong and continue acting because there were so many intriguing roles available at the time.

Sheren Tang Shui-man (born 2 March 1966) is an Hong Kong actress. She is well- known for her performances in the hugely popular TVB drama War and Beauty, as in The Femme Desperado, The Family Link, Rosy Business and No Regrets being the first Hong Kong actress to win the Best Actress Award in two consecutive years for the last two. She was a part of TVB in 1985. She left to join ATV in 1996 before returning with TVB after 2000. She’s since concentrated her work in the mainland of China and then returned her to Hong Kong television in 2018 shooting a show for ViuTV.
When she was in 1985, Tang took part in TVB’s class for trainers. A few months later, after she graduated, Tang was cast in her first film role The Legend of the General Who Never Was with Alex Man as her costar.
In 2009, Tang’s role as 4th Wife (四奶奶) in Rosy Business brought her much popularity, making her a hot favourite for the “Best Actress” award once again. However, it was said that TVB pushed back the awards to December so that Grand Production dramas Born Rich and Beyond the Realm of Conscience could be included in the nominations, greatly diminishing Tang’s chance of winning the award. It was rumoured that TVB had initially wanted to promote the female lead of Beyond the Realm of Conscience, Tavia Yeung, to become the Best Actress. However, Yeung has openly rejected TVB’s offer, saying that if Tang did not get the “Best Actress” award, she would join the rest of the netizens to protest against TVB’s decision.
