Shelby Starner is one of the most popular and richest American singer who was born on January 3, 1984 in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, United States. Shelby E. Starner was born on January 3, 1984 at East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, to Katherine Hass and Ray J. Starner. She was a stepmother to Susan LaRose, and a stepfather named Allen Benn, in addition to her younger sister Emily P. Benn, and stepbrother Willie LaRose. Starner lived in Bartonsville. She started singing and writing poetry at the age of eleven.
Starner created a music clip for her debut song, “Don’t Let Them”. The album she released was From in the Shadows, in 1999, via Warner Bros. Records. It received enthusiastic reviews, but it did not make it into the charts. It was produced by Craig Street, it featured 13 songs. Starner’s song on the infidelity and distrust in a relationship, titled “You”, was featured in the commercials in Dawson’s Creek. Starner was featured on Billboard, Newsweek, and USA Today and appeared on Entertainment Tonight. Newsweek also praised Starner as an “pop prodigy”. Then, in February of 1999 Billboard declared that Starner will be taking part in an unspecified tour of America. United States in mid-spring and that Monterey Peninsula Artists was the agency that would be booking the tour. The tour began in April of 1999. Starner started a tour across Australia and the Far East and Australia, following which a full United States tour was planned. In Australia Starner was a guest in an episode on Hey Hey It’s Saturday with host Larry Emdur.
According to her mother, Starner learned how to hide symptoms of bulimia by reading websites that promoted it as a lifestyle. On June 22, 2003, Starner died at her home. She had bulimia-related electrolyte imbalance that caused brain swelling resulting in a stroke and seizure. Attempts to revive her at the Pocono Medical Center were unsuccessful.
The music critic Tom Moon praised her debut album From in the Shadows, declaring it to contain “… profoundly revelatory songs with lyrics that switch between the journal entries scribbled in pencil of a rebellious teenager and the disarming, thoughtful remarks of an older.” An USA Today article said “folky debut album ‘From the Shadows’ got good notices last year (1999), but made little commercial headway.” Starner’s pop-folk vocals have been often compared with Jewel or Tori Amos. Shelby E. Starner (January 3 1984 – June 22 23rd, 2003) was an American musician and singer. She signed a contract in 1997 with Warner Bros. Records in 1997 and released her debut single “Don’t Let Them” two years after. Starner released her first album From in the Shadows later in 1999, however it did not sell commercially. After 2000, Starner was working on her second studio album, but it was not released. Dissatisfied at Warner Bros. Records, Starner quit her contract. On June 3, 2003 Starner was found dead at her residence from complications from bulimia .
At the age of 12, Starner wrote the first song she considered “acceptable” called “Straight A Student.” The song was about a popular friend of 17 who was killed while drunk driving. In December 1996 Starner’s father kindly gifted her with a three-hour session in a studio, where she recorded four songs of her own songs. Starner was initially embarrassed, but then embraced the experience. A lawyer and a friend of the family presented the demonstration to executives from Warner Bros. Records. On December 17, 1997 Starner was signed a recording contract to Warner Bros. It was six albums that were that was worth over $5 million. The press rep was Liz Rosenberg, the then senior vice- president for publicity and marketing at Warner. She was enrolled in the home school program during her first year in high school.
In 2000, Starner began work on her second album with members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. She wanted to move into rock and roll, but she did not release the album and chose instead to drop her contract with Warner Bros. Starner’s mother commented that, “Warner Brothers wasn’t creative enough to find a niche for her … She was a little mellow and thought of things a little too deeply compared to kids her age that listened to the radio.” Starner and her family initially intended to find another company for her to start over until her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a result of these family health issues, Starner did not want to leave her younger sister. During this time, Starner was interested in Médecins Sans Frontières. Starner planned on enrolling at the University of Pittsburgh in August 2003 to major in Latin- American studies and writing. She aspired to write and have an essay on bulimia published.
