Shaziman Abu Mansor is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 20, 1964 in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. Shaziman Bin Abu Mansor (Jawi shzymn bn bw the name of mnSwr was born on January 20, 1964) is a Malaysian politician and well-known participant in the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) as a party component of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He was also the former Work Minister of Malaysia.
Shaziman’s proposal on April 4 received a snub from an official of the Opposition and two famous blog writers, Jeff Ooi and Ahiruddin Attan. Both were sued by the New Straits Times Press in January 2007. Democratic Action Party (DAP) leader Lim Kit Siang, who spoke out during the time Shaziman was in the Parliament, said that the ministers’ criticism on bloggers “reflected their lack of understanding about information flow” even though the foreign political leaders already run blogs. The blogger and political activist Marina Mahathir stated the move is only a way to ridicule the government’s position in the international community. She urged that the Government to “get real”, while Ahiruddin has said the proposed policy is in violation of Malaysia’s no- censorship policy in relation to the Internet and also creates fear for bloggers who may ultimately decide to move their blogs abroad. Jeff Ooi has questioned the necessity for registration of bloggers, since there was already a Communications and Multimedia Content Forum handling complaints from any entity was already set up in the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) following when it was established under the Communications and Multimedia Act in 1998. The government claims that the plan is in contradiction to the global trend and could hinder the development of local web content.
After the 2004 general election, Shaziman was included into the Cabinet of Malaysia as the Deputy Minister of Energy, Water and Communications, under the leadership of Energy, Water and Communications Minister Lim Keng Yaik. Following Lim’s announcement of his retirement as the President of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (GERAKAN) in 2007, Shaziman was promoted as the new Minister of Energy, Water and Communications on 18 March 2008.
Since taking on the position of the Deputy Minister of Energy, Water and Communications in the year 2004, Shaziman has expressed views against bloggers who Shaziman accuses of “[spreading] negative or malicious content on the Internet” that “could harm the country’s security”. In the weekly Parliament meeting held on the 23rd of August the 23rd of August, Shaziman accused anonymous blogger of being “penembak curi”, a Malay term that means “snipers”, and challenged bloggers to come forward and discuss the issues that they do not like:

Shaziman was first introduced to Malaysian politics in the year 1991, at the age of 27 and was an active member of Tampin Bandar UMNO. Tampin Bandar Branch from UMNO located in Tampin. Shaziman gained prominence through among the ranks of UMNO up to the point that he was chosen for the position of director of UMNO Youth in 1997. This was then he was appointed the director of Tampin UMNO in 2001.
Shaziman was elected to run for the general election in 1999 and was running for the Tampin seat in the parliament against Hamdan Hashim from the Pan- Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) and winning with 9979 votes to 9,979. Shaziman kept his seat for the next 3 general elections beating Abdul Razakek Abdul Rahim of PAS in 2004 and 2008 and in 2013. In 2004 Shaziman took the victory with a convincing majority of 18084 votes (against 5852 votes to Abdul Razakek); 2008 saw a smaller share of votes in favor of Shaziman who received 1307 votes (against 10943 to Abdul Razakek) and 11,162 majority in 2013. At the election of 2018, Shaziman was defeated by Hasan Baharom of Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH) in a three-corner contest alongside the PAS’s Abdul Razakek for the Tampin seat in parliament.
In a later Parliament meeting held on 4 April 2007, Shaziman expressed the idea of compulsory registration for bloggers whose blogs are hosted on local servers, one of several measures the Government was considering to curb publication of malicious materials on the Internet, adding the ministry does not have any problem with bloggers who identified themselves but reiterating his view of welcoming blogging activities. Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak sided Shaziman, stating bloggers have made the “business of government more challenging” and in certain cases, caused unnecessary distraction.
