William Shawn Wooten (born July 24 1972) is the major league hitting assistant manager with the Los Angeles Angels. He was a professional player in the field of baseball. He played the entirety or a portion of five seasons with Major League Baseball with the Anaheim Angels (2000-03), Philadelphia Phillies (2004), and Boston Red Sox (2005). He is a right-handed hitter and thrower.
In the postseason of 2002, Wooten was used as the team’s DH against left- handed pitching. He also played alongside Brad Fullmer. The 2002 American League Division Series against the New York Yankees, Wooten played in one of four matches as DH and also pinch-hit in a third. He hit six times in nine at- bats. Wooten was initially drafted and was signed with The Detroit Tigers in 1993 as third baseman. He played for just two years within the Tigers team and was let go in mid-season of 1995 after batting .129 in his 20 games at Double-A Jacksonville. He was signed by the mutually-owned Moose Jaw Diamond Dogs of the Prairie League, where he struck .373 in the second quarter of 1995. The Angels assigned Wooten to the Class-A Cedar Rapids Kernels, where Wooten began to master the catcher’s role. In 1998, as part of the Lake Elsinore Storm, he was the team’s first baseman. The year 2000 saw him hit .353 when playing for Triple-A Edmonton Trappers, earning a later-season promotion to major leagues. The first hit was one in left field, which he hit with Kelvim Escobar from the Toronto Blue Jays on August 30. He played in seven games, scoring five hits in his nine bats.
After starting the 2002 season in the minor leagues on a rehab assignment, Wooten came off the disabled list in July 2002. He played in 49 of the team’s last 76 games, batting .338 (26-for-77) from August through September, including three doubles in a game to tie a team record. Overall, he finished with a .292 average in 49 games, mostly as a DH or first baseman.

In the offseason, Wooten operates a baseball academy for young kids to high schoolers (and sometimes working with college players) in Plymouth, Minnesota.
