While Bowman was chosen to the Mets in the 12th round (357th overall) in the 2002 Major League Baseball draft, they could not agree on the terms of a contract before they could allow Bowman to be able to play in the season of 2002. Bowman began his professional career in the 2003 season, when he was a part of each of the Kingsport Mets and the Brooklyn Cyclones. Bowman would go on to enjoy an excellent 2004 playing in the Capital City Bombers where he hit .258 and had 19 RBIs and 19 home runs in the 116 games played. But, he started to suffer from chronic back pain during the 2005 season being a part of the St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League, and was only able to participate in 125 games during the following three seasons.

Bowman was a student at Dr. Charles Best Secondary School in Coquitlam, British Columbia and was the first third-baseman to play with the Coquitlam Reds of the B.C. Premier Baseball League. Bowman was also a shortstop player for Team Canada at the 2002 World Junior Baseball Championship, which he was selected to the tournament’s All-Star Team after hitting 12 RBIs over five games.

Bowman was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays on April 14, 2010.
