Shaun Michal Marcum (born December 14th 1981) is an American former professional baseball player who was a part of Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Mets as well as the Cleveland Indians. In 2015, he was appointed the pitching coach of the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers. He was a part of with the Missouri Southern Lions as their pitching coach in August 2016.
On March 22 Marcum got the job of Opening Day starter for the 2010 season. He succeeded Roy Halladay for that role who made seven consecutive starts on opening day for the team between 2003 and 2009. In May, Marcum was awarded his first victory against his team, the Oakland Athletics, it was his first victory in the last three months since his September 11, 2008 win, prior to having Tommy John operation. On August 4, 2010, Marcum gave up Alex Rodriguez’s 600th home run of his career. Marcum finished the season with a 13-8 wins-loss records, 3.64 ERA, and more than 165 strikeouts over the 195/3 innings he pitched.
As of May 1, 2009, Marcum had started to throw again. He made two starts with the Advanced-A Dunedin Blue Jays in early July, and pitching successfully on his rehab assignment, he then started twice with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, and once more with Triple-A Las Vegas 51s before being shut down for the season to prevent him from injury again.
On December 6, at the 2010 MLB Winter Meetings, Marcum was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for infield prospect Brett Lawrie.
Marcum was a breakout player in 2007, finishing 12-6, with an impressive 4.13 ERA. He pitched out 120 batters over 159 hours of work. He pitched six or more scoresless innings over seven starts, which included two occasions where the pitcher pitched six no-hit innings prior to being relieved. One of those times occurred against Boston Red Sox.

Marcum was born in Kansas City, Missouri and was raised in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, where Marcum attended Excelsior Springs High School. Athletically, aside from baseball and wrestling, he was also twice State Champion in wrestling and a star football player. Marcum was a student at his first school, the University of Missouri, but moved into Missouri State University, playing on the 2003 College World Series team as shortstop and pitcher. He was a player of college summer baseball for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Marcum was selected to the Blue Jays in the third round, ranked 80th overall in 2003’s Major League Baseball Draft. Marcum quickly made his way throughout the Minor Leagues before he made his debut in the major leagues on the 6th of September in 2005, as an early season call-up as rosters were expanded. Marcum made his debut in the game against Baltimore Orioles pitching one scoreless innings, surrendering one hit and one walk and one strikeout. Marcum pitched eight innings and allowed six hits without giving up a single run during his September month.
In 2008, Marcum got off to a good start, going 5–4 with a 2.65 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 98⁄3 innings, but an injury, followed by a handful of weak starts sent him to Triple-A on August 23. In September he was back in the starting rotation and he seemed to have returned to form. However, on September 19, days after an abbreviated start in which he left with elbow pain, the Jays released the information that Marcum would need Tommy John surgery and would miss the rest of the 2008 season and likely all of 2009. He finished the 2008 campaign with a 9–7 record, 3.39 ERA, and 123 strikeouts in 151⁄3 innings.

Through his first 11 games (9 of which were starts) for the Mets, Marcum posted a dismal 0–9 record with a 5.76 earned run average.
