Sebbens was Anna in the short film Violet and also starred in the Australian production A Hoax, receiving a nomination for “Best Newcomer” at the Sydney Theatre Awards. In May 2012, she landed the role of Redfern Now, a TV show about “six inner city households whose lives are changed by a seemingly insignificant incident.” She was awarded her Logie Award for Most Outstanding New Talent at the Logie Awards of 2013 for her role on the show.
Sebbens was able to land a part for Sebbens in The Sapphires (2012), which was a film that is based on the stage production of the identical name. The film was directed by Wayne Blair and also starred Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy and Miranda Tapsell. Sebbens portrayed Kay McCrae, one of four Indigenous Australian singers “who travel from a mission in Victoria to Vietnam to sing for American troops”. When she was a kid Sebbens hoped to be an astronaut or palaeontologist however at thirteen, she watched Indigenous Actress Deborah Mailman in the film Radiance (1998) and was motivated to study acting.
Sebbens graduated Darwin High School in 2001 and then four years later, at the age of nineteen, she was selected to take part in “SPARK”; a theatre mentorship program developed in 2001 by the Australia Council for the Arts. When she turned twenty, she received a place in the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) where she took a one-year course for Aboriginal Theatre. After finishing the course at WAAPA Sebbens was able to successfully audition for a spot for NIDA. National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) which is where she studied acting over three years.
