The year 2005 saw McNally was back in 2005 with blues, country, and soul influences in her album Geronimo that included the song “Banshee Moan”. The album’s release in June was followed by a summer’s full of live shows. In the beginning of 2006, she debuted North American Ghost Music. Concert dates for Son Volt were also scheduled to coincide with with its release.

In 2013, McNally released Small Town Talk, a tribute to the songs of Bobby Charles. In an interview, McNally said that she was a longtime friend of Charles and that her album was inspired by Charles’s debut album from 1973. The album is a musical collaboration with the legendary Dr. John.

Shortly after, McNally and her young daughter moved from New Orleans to Holly Springs, Mississippi, where McNally nursed her terminally ill mother until her passing in 2015. She took solace in her friendship with Rodney Crowell. Together the two wrote songs and exchanged ideas until her tenth studio album BLACK IRISH was born. The album was released in 2017 on Compass Records. Shortly after the release, McNally set out on a nationwide tour with Erin Costelo.

When Capitol released Jukebox Sparrows at the beginning of January in 2002 they did so in the market that had taken to such music that was rooted like Ryan Adams and the O Brother, Where Art Thou soundtrack. McNally began the press tour and spent the rest of the year touring opening for John Mellencamp. In the latter part of 2002, she released her Ran on Pure Lightning EP in collaboration with the songwriter Neal Casal.

McNally was born in Hempstead, New York, located on Long Island. While studying an anthropology course in Franklin and Marshall College, she began to sing and play guitar, in small club. In 1997, following her graduation and honed her skills in street corners of Paris as a street performer, she signed a contract with Capitol Records. Her debut album was recorded, Jukebox Sparrows (Capitol, 2002) featuring Jim Keltner, Greg Leisz as well as James Gadson. It was never available when it was released at the time recording.

In the meantime, McNally opened for Stevie Nicks and Ryan Adams and was part of the 1999 Girl’s room tour along with Tara MacLean, Kendall Payne as well as Amy Correia. She also appeared in the commercials in Urban Decay cosmetics. The year 2000 saw her released an EP Bolder Than Paradise.

McNally took off most of 2008 and 2009 after the birth of her first child. She resumed performing and recording and toured with Dave Alvin & the Guilty Women. In 2009 she released the album Coldwater with her band Hot Sauce.
